Description of Significance BLACK BEAVER WAS BORN INTO THE DELAWARE TRIBE AROUND 1806. HE SERVED AS AN INTERPRETER AND AS ONE OF THE MOST RESPECTED INDIAN SCOUTS IN SERVICE TO THE US ARMY. UPON RETIREMENT, HE SETTLED WITH THE NEWLY-RELOCATED DELAWARE TRIBE NEAR ANADARKO WHERE HE DIED IN 1880. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 5/11/73. (REMAINS SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED TO FORT SILL CEMETERY.) REMOVED FROM NATIONAL REGISTER 09/01/1975.
